Xerox Research Center India (XRCI) explores, develops and incubates innovative solutions and services for Xerox’s global customers, with a special focus on emerging markets. Inaugurated in March 2010, the center’s mission is to capture innovation opportunities for Xerox in emerging markets and to advance Xerox’s position as the leading global provider of document and business process services by leveraging the rich talent and technical expertise in India.
Invention and entrepreneurship are truly valued at Xerox Research Center, and the brightest people from diverse disciplines and cultures work together to create unique customer value. The center’s leading-edge research creates high-impact technologies that make a real difference.
Researching latest technologies and trends
Researchers at XRCI work on technologies such as cloud computing, crowdsourcing and business analytics to develop innovative services and service delivery models aimed at Xerox’s traditional document management businesses as well as its newer business process and information technology outsourcing businesses. Researchers also leverage Xerox’s established expertise in imaging, document management and ethnography to explore, develop and incubate unique solutions for challenges inspired by emerging market needs and opportunities.
XRCI’s current research initiatives include automation and optimization of document intensive business processes for key verticals in emerging markets, crowdsourcing for business process outsourcing, and cloud-based technologies and solutions for optimized business process delivery.
Open Innovation is at the core of how research is conducted at XRCI. This program brings together scientists and engineers from across Xerox in close, collaborative research partnerships with leading academic institutions, research labs, and industry partners in India. XRCI has initiated eight such strategic partnerships with top schools in India, including IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Science, IIT Mandi, Srishti Labs, University of Manipal as well as institutions focused on rural development such as IIT Madras’ Rural Technology Business Incubator. These research partnerships cover a broad range of topics including cloud computing, services marketplace design, multilingual technology development, personalized information delivery, video based patient monitoring and rural technology initiatives.
A strong student fellowship and internship program complements the Open Innovation partnerships. Interns and post-doctoral students from India have the opportunity to work in Xerox’s global research labs as part of the fellowship program.
XRCI’s research team works closely with Xerox businesses and customers to enable successful transfer of technologies from the lab to the marketplace. Through the Xerox Innovation Group’s Customer Led Innovation program, XRCI interacts with customers to envision and create a future that is different and better.
XRCI is one of five global research centers located Canada, the US and France. Researchers from the India center collaborate with their peers in the US and Europe, who in turn contribute to Open Innovation partnerships in India.
